Book Review: The Little Book Of Hygge

Hygge is pronounced “hoo-guh”.

“The noun hygge includes something nice, cozy, safe and known, referring to a psychological state. The Happiness Research Institute in Copenhagen has studied the positive effect of “hygge” on Danish society.”—- Wikipedia

The author of this book, Meik Wiking, is the CEO of The Happiness Research Institute. In this book, he outlines the meaning of “hygge” and its characteristics. He also gives examples on how to add or transform your own space to be more “hygge-ly”.

I really enjoyed the imagery that appeared when he described a Hygge-ly setting. I love a good book, candlelight, and under a warm blanket. Reading this book really reminds me of the days that we all can gather around at barbecue parties and potlucks.

Interestingly, I know of some people who are actually glad that they can’t have any big family gatherings and demand expensive Christmas gifts. I guess they wouldn’t like hygge-ly ideas then…
