Mid-autumn Festival Doodles

The four doodles I did were the Jade Rabbit, Moon Goddess (Chang E), the moon and a mooncake with tea. These images were well ingrained into the traditions of Midautumn Festival.

Mid-autumn Myths And Traditions

1) The Jade Rabbit, also called the Moon Rabbit, is a rabbit that lives on the moon. In Chinese folklore, it is often portrayed as a companion of the moon goddess Chang’e, constantly pounding the elixir of life for her. However, in Japanese and Korean versions of the story, it is just pounding mochi or tteok.—- Wikibooks

2) The Moon Goddess’s myth revolved around her drinking an immortal elixir and floating up to live on the moon.

3) “A mooncake is a Chinese bakery product traditionally eaten during the Mid-Autumn Festival. The festival is about lunar appreciation and Moon watching, and mooncakes are regarded as a delicacy. Mooncakes are offered between friends or on family gatherings while celebrating the festival.”—Wikipedia

4) The Mid-Autumn Festival, also known as the Moon Festival or Mooncake Festival, is a traditional festival celebrated in Chinese culture. Similar holidays are celebrated in Japan (Tsukimi), Korea (Chuseok), Vietnam (Tết Trung Thu), and other countries in East and Southeast Asia.—Wikipedia

Art Inspiration: Midautumn Bunny

Working on a midautumn festival piece…..

Do you know the story of the bunny in the moon?

The Moon rabbit or Moon hare is a mythical figure in East Asian and indigenous American folklore, based on pareidolia interpretations that identify the dark markings on the near side of the Moon as a rabbit or hare. Wikipedia

Vendor Feature: Stacey Rosen Art

I love art. That is why I am very excited about wearable art! More people can see and enjoy these types of pieces. Thank you, Stacey Rosen Art for my necklace!

Who is Stacey Rosen Art?

Hello! My name is Stacey Rosen of Stacey
Rosen Art. I am a Registered Nurse by trade, a mom, runner, lover of nature and an artist.

I have recently gotten back into art, and committed in February of 2019 to making art more of a priority in my life after a ten year hiatus focusing on my career and family.
Art has always been apart of who I am and how I observe and process the world.
I am ecstatic to be at a place in my life now where I can explore this more tangibly with a variety of mediums. For as long as I can remember I’ve always loved to observe, study, sketch and draw with whatever I could get my hands on,
A few years after having my children, I was blessed to have been able to Get back into art learning Acrylic painting from the incredibly talented Serge Dube, in his studio in Langley B. C.

Most of my larger work is in acrylic, but more recently, also involves experimenting, loving and learning with a variety of media including watercolor, charcoal and sumi e ink which is teaching me to paint more expressively and intuitively. Along the way I’ve also picked oils back up and am enjoying the journey thoroughly.
Most of my work is an expression of, and a deep appreciation for the beauty I see and feel around me, particularly in nature, which consistently instills a sense of awe, stillness, wonder, connectedness as well as a profound sense of spirituality, peace and gratitude.

Being in nature is my cathedral.
Another inspiration of mine is the strength, lines, beauty and expression of dancers, which I’ve been exploring a bit more recently.

My hope is that a deep appreciation for nature, stillness and a sense of peace, gratitude and connectedness comes across in my work as well as an appreciation of elegance, grace and transcendence, and that others can share even a bit of this experience through my art.

Newest addition to my art journey has been meeting fellow creative @fabeldes the wonderful Bobbie…. and collaborating together to create wearable Art. Together, we come up with the ideas for design, I then hand paint our thoughts in ink and watercolor and Bobbie of fabledyr sources the vintage and drop pendants and puts it all together for a variety of looks from florals to abstract landscapes to illustrative designs. If you have an idea we’d love to make a design with the colours and look that your looking for.

Vendor Feature: A Sprinkle Of Sun

Valentine’s Day is coming up! Check out these cute cards by A Sprinkle Of Sun by Cards By Carmen!

Who Is A Sprinkle Of Sun?

1) Why and when did you start your business?

The greeting cards started in July 2021. I wanted to do something to support my mental health so I
bought an iPad for myself in the beginning of covid to try something new – drawing electronically. I have always loved writing individualized comments in cards to show appreciation for my friends, family, and coworkers, and I thought, maybe this year, I can make a card for them that will make
them smile and feel cozy inside.

My greetings cards highlight food puns and relationships with people. Food helps us to understand each other and brings joy to any occasion. Food also brings people together and my hope is that handwritten cards featuring a funny food will allow people to share their love with one another.

2) What was your background?

As a Chinese Canadian woman who has been brought up in both Western and Asian culture, I love the diversity of food found both in my family’s home and across the Lower Mainland. All these cards feature foods I enjoy eating with my friends and family. Previously, I made cards using cardstock and scrapbooking supplies. Now that I have transitioned to making cards using an iPad, I find myself that my cards are looking more cute.

Handmade and thoughtful cards make people smile, and in trying times like today, why not send them a laugh and handwritten note? Sometimes when I draw the pictures, I give myself a laugh too!

3) Are there interesting facts about your product?

My first card was the dimsum card. Partly because I was craving dimsum in the beginning of covid so I channeled it in my drawing. The greetings are printed in a local company.

Support local! All the packaging are made out of paper.

4) Is there anything else you would like to share?

You can pick up the cards in East Vancouver (just IG me) or BIPOC + Local Marketplace in Abbotsford. I will doing popups around the Lower Mainland so follow me on Instagram for our future events!
